It took too long to get started--Jolene doesn't even hear about Max, much less meet him, until the 10% point. And they don't meet until 18%. And what a snob she is! But she is open minded, which helps. Other than helping her stepdaughter grow into a young lady, she is mostly accepting of the way Max and his employees have been doing things on the ranch. She also gradually learns (with Max's help) that she can love again.I have to say I can't really identify with a heroine who is so obsessed with appearances, wardrobe, decorating, social status, and so on. I don't think that changed over the course of the book.

Well written and enjoyable. Don't recall one grammatical error!
We all have certain expectations from an historical romance. I don't think it called a spoiler to say it is an HEA. Even with that expectation, it was a wonderful read that ended too soon. I couldn't put the book down and was sorry when it ended!

I wanted to read this book just to see how Jolene got her "just rewards" for being so hateful to her sisters. I was pleasantly surprised to find her a victim of her hateful mother too. I enjoyed seeing Jolene & Max fall in love and build a life together. I look forward to the next book.
Third book in the series and it is just as good as the previous two books in the Crawford Family series. This is the about the fate of the last sister who is left at home. Her fate nearly sealed by a understanding which she does not agree with so she flees and is given advice from her sister that gives her courage. It is so nice to see women who are smart, beautiful and talented take control of their fate and do what is right for their futures in the face of insurmountable odds. The men who love and support these women are honest, hard-working and trustworthy. I enjoyed the book immensely.
This was a story about a woman who has much pain & loss in her life, but always kept going on, regardless of how thick the wall she built around her heart. She gets away from her former life and finds so much more happiness than she could ever hope for, but before she can enjoy it, she has to re-live the pain in order to put it behind her. This story gave me some tears and smiles. Well worth reading.
Yes Jolene was cruel, but can't people see beyond the surface of a person?? She had a cruel, controlling mother, a loving father who just gave up.
This was a very sweet and sensual love story.
The very rich in Boston were beyond reproach, so they thought! So everything possible was done to avoid a scandal no matter what it cost or who got hurt.
I loved this story and story before this one. Both well written.
Had read the first book in this series and then just forgot about it. I was happily surprised to stumble on it and realize that she had THREE more books out!! Have to admit that the first was my favorite, and I didn't come into reading this with a lot of love for Jolene because of how she acted in the first books. That being said, I really liked the character development of Jolene working through her issues with her son & husband, and Max's patience with her.
A delightful story. Mrs. Bush redeemed Jolene from book one. Made her into a woman any man will be proud to love. What a man she found in Max. Strong, loving and principled. while right for the life of her new daughter she could come to terms with the death of her son. Jolene is a survivor and Mrs. Bush told her story so well
